Nerding Out!

I recently read The Nerdist Way by Chris Hardwick. I got it as a xmas present and well it might be the best damn present i have received in a long long time (thanks ange).  It is a very inspiring comedic self help book. He doesn’t get preachy with the self help. He uses autobiographical references and offers advice based on his experiences.  The book basically breaks down into 3 sections (mind, body, time) as you work you way through the book you create your own character. Its like setting up a video game,  you give yourself points for identifying your strengths and weaknesses,  achieving personal goals, and identifying obstacles. Along the way Chris gives you motivational tips on how you can set and achieve your goals.  I read it on the plane to Los Angeles and well on the plane ride back I decided to try to get myself together.  I can honestly say I have used these tips and it’s already helped me be more productive and organized. If you haven’t already check out the Nerdist Podcast DO IT! ( nerdist.com ). Nerdist now a hilarious tv show on BBC America and he also hosts the copart to my favorite show (the Walking Dead) The  TALKING DEAD tv show (the walking dead starts this week, I can’t wait).

Ok now to music……

OPA! by La Internacional Sonora Balkanera is a great remix track to check out.

OPA

The track Bulibasha by La Caravane Passe featuring Erika Serre and Marko Markovic will not leave my brain.

Bulibasha La Caravane Passe

Also check out this new cumbia album… Piratas y Fichines EP by Super Guachin on the ZZK label (which seems to be endless in their arsenal of new bands)

JANUARY WAS INSANITY

JANUARY WAS INSANITY!!!!

It has been a few months since i’ve updated the going ons in the world of :::Pandemic:::

west-coasting-running-mix

whether you were there or not you are probably still feeling the effects of last months party.  WOW is the only real way to describe it.  People were totally out of control, more so than usual, which means total winter sadness turned into party madness.

Recently I was in Los Angeles and Guest Dj’ed at the party MALABOMBA (w/ dj’s jason savvy and cat hair, both great dudes with great musics and i grateful to have met them and dropped a guest set at their party). They brought in Novi Malesevski Zurli an amazing Macedonian Zurla player who killed it dropping many of the famous gypsy tunes we know and love with a guest Los Angeles local Tapan player who held it all together.

MY PLAYLIST FOR THE MARATHON WEEKEND

máscaras…

I almost bought this last week.

MY PLAYLIST FOR THE MARATHON WEEKEND…

Neither of these albums will make you want to run a marathon, but both are great buys that you will listen to over and over.

MARIJATA LP is a great find. It’s perfect for an overcast day w/ lots of little chores and housework. The tracks are funky and mellow for the most part w/ great horn arrangements.  Some of these tracks are avail on various afrobeat comps (i.e. GHANA SOUNDZ). Had this one suggested by the great staff at pauls cds.

Mochilla Presents TIMELESS Mulata Astake LIVE LP:
This record was recommended by a friend on friday and by saturday afternoon i had to pick it up. I did at 720 records in Lawrenceville.  It was my first time at 720 and everyone was overwhelmingly friendly, the coffee was hot, the cafe was comfortable and the selection was solid.  The selection was a bit smaller than i anticipated but helds its ground w/ quality.
