BlackMahal, the Band Behind Viral Steelers Bhangra Anthem “Black, Gold and Silver”, Will be “Blitz-Singh” the ‘Burgh for the First Time Friday July 13 at the Thunderbird Cafe
Show at ThunderBird Café brings BlackMahal back to where it all began
(PITTSBURGH – June 13, 2012) – Punjabi-
funk hop band BlackMahal can trace its
start back to a casual conversation at a
wedding in Pittsburgh twelve years ago,
but this summer marks the first time that
the band will be playing here.
BlackMahal’s July 13 th debut at the
Thunderbird Café is due largely to the
popularity of their hit song and video
“Black Gold and Silver (Lombardi Baby!)”,
which was created to cheer the Pittsburgh
Steelers on in their bid for the Super Bowl
Lombardi Trophy. The video available
here spread across the world and back to
the ‘Burgh.
“We’ve toured across North America from the Olympics to the upcoming Montreal Jazz Fest but nothing beats coming back to your hometown,” says Vijay Chattha, a founding member of BlackMahal and a native of Weirton, WV, just 45 minutes from Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field stadium.
don’t forget we will still bring the Balkan Beats, Gypsy Brass,
Russian Ska, Casio Cumbias, Bhangra, Kuduro, Bongo Flava, Kwaito,
Klezmer, Bosnian Hip Hop, etc…
Daniel Haaksman is the brain behind Man Recordings and a DJ / producer
/ journalist / label CEO in demand.
Spinning a club ready mix of baile funk, hip hop, house,
electro, baltimore club, kuduro, dancehall or whatever get the people
moving, he knows no rules except for one: A DJ has to rock the party.
Google “Baile Funk” and see who comes up…. He released the Rio Baile
Funk Favela Booty Beats back in 2003 and ran Essay Recordings which
released albums from the likes of Shantel, Balkan Beat Box, Senor
Coconut and many more…
Daniel Haaksman released his Debut EP “Who´s Afraid Of Rio?” in 2008
which kicked off his artist career, resulting in a series of EP

Additionally, Daniel made floor smashing remixes for artists such as
Gotan Project, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Acid Washed, The
Glimmers, Schlachthofbronx, Beataucue and Edu K amongst others. During
all these years, Haaksman travelled the world as a DJ with his CD
booklet, playing a club friendly mix of baile funk, samba, house, UK
funky, cumbia and other “ghetto” styles. He knows no musical rules,
except for one: A DJ has to rock the party. Daniel released his debut

2011 including the highlights of his prior single releases as well as
many new tracks of pure tropical heat.
